چکیده

We show here that a thin film of a nonlinear conjugated polymer: poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) is capable of efficiently generating the third harmonic of femtosecond pulses of light at the near infrared (including telecommunication bands) wavelengths, giving coherent, low divergence beams in the visible range. By using more than one fundamental beam overlapping in space and in time on the PPV film, autocorrelation signals are observed as well as higher order mixing signals due to X(5) and higherorder nonlinear susceptibilities. These signals can be used for applications such as short laser pulse diagnostics and photonic signal processing and they provide information about the nonlinear properties of the material itself.

Numerical Investigation of Birefringene Effect on the Light Reflection

In the present paper, the problem of light reflection from a birefringent medium and thin film is considered. First, the analytical equations governing the propagation of a plane and harmonic electromagnetic wave in an infinite, birefringent, linear, non-dispersive, non-absorbing, and non-magnetic medium is derived from Maxwell equations. Then, using phase matching condition and boundary condit...

Multimode Emissions from MEH-PPV Blended with Polystyrene Film Waveguides

In the context of conjugated polymers, especially those of the poly (phenylenevinylene) (PPV) family, which are promising candidates as emission material in light emitting devices such as LEDs, field effect transistors and photovoltaic devices, we have, in the present study, prepared MEH-PPV [Poly [2- methoxy-5-(2’-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylen-evinylene] of low molecular weight and low polydisp...

Characterization of Domain Ordering in Polymer and Dendrimer Thin Films Using Photoluminescence and Third Harmonic Generation (THG) Near-field Scanning Optical Microscopy (NSOM)

We have utilized the high spatial resolution of near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) to characterize nanoscopic electronic inhomogeneity in as-cast thin films of a light-harvesting dendrimer consisting of coumarin-343 (core) and coumarin-2 (peripheral) chromophores and in thermally annealed thin films of the semiconductive polymer poly(2-methoxy5-(20-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinyle...

Anionic/Non-ionic Surfactants in Aqueous Phase of Thin Film Composite Poly(Paraphenylene Terephthalamide) Nanofiltration Membranes

In this work, the Interfacial interfacial polymerization (IP) technique was employed using terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) and p-phenylenediamine (PPD), as reactant monomers, to prepare poly(paraphenylene terephthalamide) thin film composite (TFC) nanofiltration on polyethersulphone (PES) support layer. The effects of six different anionic and non-ionic surfactants, in the aqueous phase on the mor...

Molecular weight effects in the third-harmonic generation spectroscopy of thin films of the conjugated polymer MEH-PPV.

Thin spin-cast films of poly[2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) were prepared from samples whose weight-average molecular weight (Mw) was varied in the range of 10-1600 kg/mol. We have characterized the films by means of transmission and reflection ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV-vis-NIR) spectroscopy to derive the linear optical constants, and third-harmonic...
